Enabling Autonomous Medical Imaging

For X-ray and ultrasound systems to operate autonomously, they must understand their environment and perform complex tasks. These tasks include patient positioning, scanning, and quality control automation.

GE Healthcare is leveraging NVIDIA Isaac™ for Healthcare, a new medical device simulation platform. This platform includes pre-trained models and physics-based simulation of sensors, anatomy, and environments. It enables GE Healthcare to train, test, and validate autonomous imaging systems in virtual environments before deployment.

Expanding Access to Imaging with AI

X-ray and ultrasound are essential diagnostic tools, yet two-thirds of the world lacks access to them. By adding robotic capabilities, autonomous imaging systems can improve accessibility and efficiency.

For nearly two decades, NVIDIA and GE Healthcare have collaborated on advanced imaging solutions. Their work spans CT, MRI, image-guided therapy, and breast imaging.

Bridging Simulation and Reality

NVIDIA Isaac for Healthcare supports medical device companies in building simulation environments. These environments help robotic systems safely learn skills for real-world applications, including surgery.

This platform is built on three NVIDIA technologies: DGX™, Omniverse™, and Holoscan. It features AI models optimized for medical robotics, enhancing vision and language processing. Developers can precisely simulate medical environments and use NVIDIA Holoscan for real-time robotic decision-making.

Medical sensor simulation options remain limited. Isaac for Healthcare provides physics-based digital twins of medical environments. Developers can integrate custom sensors, instruments, and anatomical structures to train robots for diverse scenarios. This approach narrows the gap between simulation and reality, enabling rapid digital prototyping.

Scaling Medical Robotics with AI

Isaac for Healthcare accelerates the development of medical robotics by simulating complex environments and training AI models. It optimizes robotic applications in surgery, endoscopy, and cardiovascular interventions.

Companies like Moon Surgical, Neptune Medical, and Xcath have started using the platform. The ecosystem allows seamless integration of simulation tools, sensors, robots, and medical probes. Partners such as Ansys, Franka, ImFusion, Kinova, and Kuka are already deploying this technology.

Early Access Now Available

NVIDIA has opened early access to Isaac for Healthcare, allowing developers to explore and integrate autonomous imaging solutions. This platform is set to transform medical imaging and robotics, making healthcare more accessible worldwide.
