System Overview:

The 1747-BSN Backup Scanner Module from Allen-Bradley is designed to provide redundancy in control systems, ensuring that if a fault occurs in the primary processor, a secondary processor can take over seamlessly. It supports redundancy for:

• Remote I/O (RIO) communication.
• RS232 channel switchover for communication with devices like operator interfaces.
• DH+ communication.

In addition to redundancy, the module provides:

• High-Speed Serial Link (HSSL) to transfer retentive data from the primary processor to the secondary processor.
• Local Serial Link (LSL) for status communication between multiple 1747-BSN modules within the same chassis (optional feature).

The 1747-BSN functions as a pair of complementary modules—one in the primary system and one in the backup system. The primary module controls remote I/O, while the secondary module takes over in case of a fault in the primary system.

The module can also switch between two communication channels:

• The first channel can be configured for RIO or DH+.
• The second channel is used for RS232/485 communication, typically for connecting operator interfaces.

Both communication channels can operate simultaneously, ensuring robust communication and control.
