The RIM handles several tasks shared across the entire rack. However, it does not affect the system’s overall monitoring performance. One RIM is required per rack. In cases involving Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) applications, you must use a TMR RIM. This specialized RIM adds an important feature: it performs monitor channel comparison.

When configured in TMR mode, the RIM constantly compares the outputs of three redundant monitors. If one monitor’s output deviates by more than a predefined percentage from the others, the TMR RIM flags it as erroneous and records the event in the System Event List.
