Functional Description

The IS415UCVHH1A is an advanced controller board from General Electric, specifically designed for gas turbine control systems. It is part of the Mark VIe Series, which utilizes VME platforms. This single board computer (SBC) runs turbine application code and connects to turbine I/O boards via the VME bus. It mounts on a VME rack, forming the heart of the control module.

Operation and Performance

The IS415UCVHH1A executes up to 100,000 rungs or blocks per second under normal conditions. This high performance enables the controller to handle demanding turbine applications effectively. Additionally, the controller synchronizes with the VCMI communication board’s clock within 100 microseconds, thanks to an external clock interrupt.

The VCMI communication board uses the VME bus to transmit and receive data from the control system database (CSDB). In a simplex system, the controller processes inputs and outputs from I/O boards. In a TMR system, data from input boards and internal state values are exchanged between controllers, ensuring higher reliability and fault tolerance.

Installation and Setup

For installation, the IS415UCVHH1A must pair with a VCMI to form a control module. The GE Fanuc integrator’s rack, as well as the Mark VIe racks, are the preferred options for mounting. Shorter GE Fanuc racks are suitable for standalone modules with remote I/O, while longer Mark VIe racks support both local and remote I/O.

The controller needs a cooling fan positioned above or below it, depending on the rack used. For standalone setups with GE Fanuc racks, a VDSK board powers the fan and enables rack identification through an ID connection.
