Overview
The IS200VPROH2B is a turbine protection board developed by General Electric (GE) as part of the Mark VI control system. It is designed to provide an independent emergency overspeed protection mechanism for turbine systems, operating separately from the main turbine control system to ensure safety during critical emergencies.
System Components
- VPRO Board: The core of the Protection Module, offering emergency trip functionality with triple redundancy for enhanced reliability. It supports Ethernet connections for IONet communications with control modules.
- Terminal Boards (TPRO and TREG):
- TPRO Board: Acts as the interface between the VPRO board and the TREG terminal board.
- TREG Board: Provides the positive 125 V DC power to the trip solenoids.
- TRPG Board: Supplies the negative side of the 125 V DC power to the solenoids.
System Functionality
- Emergency Trip Function: Manages the control of up to three trip solenoids, connecting between TREG and TRPG terminal boards.
- Trip Solenoid Control:
- TREG: Supplies the positive power to the solenoids.
- TRPG: Provides the negative power, allowing either board to trip the turbine independently if needed.
- Relay Control: Controls 12 relays on the TREG board, including nine relays organized in three groups of three. These relays handle voting inputs for the trip solenoids, ensuring redundancy and reliability during emergencies.
MPU Characteristics
- Output Resistance & Inductance: 200 ohm resistance and 85 mH inductance.
- Output Voltage & Load: Generates 150 V peak-to-peak output with a 60 kΩ load at the TPRO terminal block.
- Short Circuit Current: Delivers a maximum of approximately 100 mA during short circuits.
- Normal Mode Load: Uses up to 400 ohm to stabilize voltage fluctuations and maintain safe operating conditions.
Hardware Verification Procedure
- Operate K25P Relay
- Force the Sync Perm output under VTUR card points.
- Verify the K25P relay by probing TTUR screws 3 and 4.
- Operate K25 Relay
- Simulate generator voltage on TTUR screws 17 and 18.
- Operate the K25 relay by setting Sync Bypass1 to 1 and Sync Bypass0 to 0.
- Verify by probing screws 4 and 5 on TTUR.
- Operate K25A Relay
- Simulate generator voltage on TPRO screws 1 and 2.
- Set SynCK Bypass to 1 and SynCk_Perm to 1.
- Verify by probing screws 5 and 6 on TTUR.
- Note: The bus voltage must be zero (dead bus) for this test.
