Triple-Redundant Architecture: The system requires three MPs to be installed in the main chassis, where each MP operates independently. This independent operation ensures the effective execution of the user-written control program while communicating with the I/O subsystem. The redundancy of these MPs improves the system’s reliability.
Sequence of Events (SOE): The MPs continuously monitor specified discrete variables for state changes, known as events. Whenever an event occurs, the MP saves the current variable state and time stamp. If multiple Tricon systems are connected using Network Communication Modules (NCMs), the system synchronizes the time to ensure accurate SOE time-stamping across all connected units. This guarantees consistency and accuracy in tracking state changes.

Advanced Diagnostics

The 3008 MP monitors the health of both itself and the I/O modules, ensuring constant reliability. For transient faults, the hardware majority-voting circuit masks them. When a persistent fault occurs, the system diagnoses the issue and performs a hot-replacement of the faulty module.
The diagnostic process includes several critical steps:
- Memory Verification: The system ensures data integrity by verifying fixed-program memory and static RAM.
- Processor and Instruction Testing: The system tests basic processor and floating-point instructions to confirm proper functionality.
- User Memory Validation: TriBus hardware-voting checks the user memory to verify stability and accuracy.
- Communication Verification: The system checks the interfaces between shared memory, I/O communication processors, and channels to ensure smooth communication.
- The system also tests RS-485 transceivers and confirms proper clock and bus interfaces to optimize overall performance.
