Power Supply Modules Overview

The Triconex 8312 Power Supply Module provides essential logic power to modules in the Main, Expansion, or RXM Chassis. Available in three versions—24 VDC, 115 VAC, and 230 VAC—the module delivers 175 watts of power at 140°F (60°C). This ensures the system operates reliably, even in challenging environments.

Power Module Features

Each Tricon chassis contains two Power Modules, which offer redundancy. Either module can independently handle the system’s full load and operate at the rated temperature range. Positioned on the left side of the chassis, these modules convert line power to the DC power required by all Tricon modules.

You can replace the Power Modules online without interrupting system operation. For ease of maintenance, the terminal strips for grounding, incoming power, and hard-wired alarms are located at the lower-left corner of the backplane.

Power Module Alarm Contacts

The alarm contacts activate when any of the following conditions occur:

A module is missing from the system
A hardware-to-software configuration conflict arises
A module fails
The Main Processor detects a system fault
Primary power to the Power Module fails
A “Low Battery” or “Over Temperature” warning occurs

These alarms help ensure quick responses to issues, minimizing downtime and maintaining operational integrity.

Important Safety Warning

Do not use the Model 8312 Power Module in hazardous locations that require ATEX compliance. If your system uses 230 V line voltage and must meet ATEX requirements, use the Model 8311 24 VDC Power Module instead. This will ensure both safety and regulatory compliance.

Input Terminations

The input terminals, which are protected by a safety cover, accept three 12-gauge wires (3.310 mm²): neutral, hot, and protective earth (chassis ground).

Over-Temperature Sensor

The over-temperature sensor activates when the internal temperature exceeds 181°F (83°C), typically when the ambient temperature reaches 140°F (60°C) or higher. This prevents overheating and protects the system.

Alarm Contacts

The Power Module includes normally open, normally closed, and common alarm contacts.
Each contact can support 120 VAC at 1 amp.
The module accepts 12-gauge (3.310 mm²) wire, which is also protected by a safety cover.

Input Power: The system requires a minimum of 240 watts per Power Module to function optimally.
Output Power: The 8312 delivers 175 watts at 140°F (60°C).
Output Voltage: It maintains a stable 6.5 VDC, with a ±1% tolerance under all conditions.
Output Current: The module can supply up to 27 amps at 140°F (60°C), ensuring it meets high power demands.
