General Description
The 1797-BIC FLEX Ex Bus Isolator module connects standard FLEX I/O modules and provides intrinsically safe connections. This module is designed for use in hazardous environments where intrinsic safety is essential. It features several key components, such as power indicators, a removable power connector, and a FLEX Ex backplane connector, to ensure reliable operation.
The 1797-BIC is ideal for intermixed systems with multiple FLEX I/O modules on the same DIN Rail using the same adapter. However, always install this isolator module in a safe area if it is part of a hazardous location or machine system.
To operate correctly, synchronize the power cycling of the module with its associated adapter. Never install or remove this module while it is powered, as this may damage the device or cause harm to personnel. This module complies with CE standards and can safely be used in certain hazardous environments. Only intrinsically safe signals should be passed through this isolator module.

Installation and Operation
The 1797-BIC connects to the FLEX Ex system via 1794-CE3 cables. Keep in mind that the maximum distance between the FLEX Ex modules and the isolator module should not exceed 1 meter (3.28 feet). For optimal safety, only connect intrinsically safe field devices to the FLEX Ex backplane connector.
You should always power cycle the 1797-BIC when the associated adapter is power cycled to maintain proper connection. Additionally, this isolator module facilitates interconnection between intrinsically safe and non-intrinsically safe devices within the same I/O group. Therefore, the module helps you mix devices in hazardous areas with devices in non-hazardous areas.
